OAU expels 54 students


Authorities of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile Ife, have dismissed 54 students of the institution for certificate forgery.

Authorities of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile Ife, have dismissed 54 students of the institution for certificate forgery.

Majority of those dismissed are in their final year but were found to have forged secondary school certificates to enable them gain admission into the university.

A press statement by the Public Relations Officer of the university, Mr Abiodun Olanrewaju, said the university took the decision to further demonstrate its desire to sanitise the education system in Nigeria as well as make its products compete favourably in the international community.

Of the affected students, 19 are from the Faculty of Administration, 17 from Science; nine from Enviromental Design and Management, four from Basic Medical Sciences and three from the Arts
The varsity spokesman quoted the institution's Registrar, Mrs Eunice Ojo, as advising all parents and guardians to always monitor their children and wards so that their conducts would not tarnish the image of their respective families.

Meanwhile, the institution has appointed an acting Registrar, Mrs Opeyemi Olamijulo, with effect from Wednesday, November 1, 2006 as the school resumes from vacation next Monday.
